BOOK ART: ONE THEME, THREE INTERPRETATIONS

“Book Art: One Theme, Three Interpretations” features open book presentations from Lang Ingalls, Sammy Lee, and Gail Watson – three artists from the Rocky Mountain region with varied concentrations and practices in the book arts. Each artist will discuss one artwork in detail exploring the materials, methods, and meanings involved and revealing their creative process along the way. These diverse presentations review a variety of book arts approaches which are also visible in the 43 works on display in “Vessel:

Judy Gardner/Alchemical Eye Studio

We focus on non-toxic processes using mostly water based inks: Solar Plate Intaglio and Relief, Polyester Plate Litho and Monotype. We incorporate digital fabrication methods like laser cutting, CnC routing and 3D printing in with traditional print methods.

Art Gym Denver

The Printmaking area within Art Gym Denver is over 3,000 sq. ft. of dedicated space focused on Silkscreen, Photo Lithography, Plate Lithography, and both copper plate and zinc Intaglio. Two Griffin intaglio press, one Griffin lithography press, one Fuchs & Lang lithography press, and silkscreen capabilities up to 31×41 O.D. frames.

Matter is a uniquely strange place, compelled by craft, steeped in history and deeply dedicated to letters and words. Besides being obsessed with projects in the public good and design with purpose, we also letterpress print our way through the year with experiments, exhibitions, and other projects.

Ray Tomasso

The main focus of the studio is hand-papermaking, producing 100% archival rag pulp for Ray Tomasso’s fine art. The letterpress studio, with 19th and 20th century printing presses and lead and wood type, will be printing a Mo-Print keepsake. A large research library includes volumes on paper making, printing and design. A paper and print show with works dating from the 1400s to 2016 will be on display, along with Ray’s works in paper. Handmade rag paper will be available

David Ashley Studio

David has a time-capsule of a studio above City O’ City Restaurant in the heart of Denver. David will have a keepsake on the press, and will be doing calligraphy demonstrations as well. Stop by for a unique experience!
